"Everything I look at I want to photograph and make into a pillow"
Ronda J Smith was relaxing with her cat Keywan one afternoon when she decided to take his picture. Inspired by her loves of photography and sewing – and face it, Keywan – she decided to print the image on fabric, cut it out and sew a pillow. That’s how ‘in the seam’ got started.
In the three years since, Ronda has expanded her range to include animals, manhole covers, vintage cameras, NYC taxis and old fashioned ice cream trucks. Keywan remains one of her biggest sellers. She also produces custom pillows from user supplied photos.
Ronda was born in Detroit, studied photography at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and now resides in Brooklyn. When not producing pillows, or sourcing out new objects to turn into COUCH ART, Ronda works as a photographer, specializing in food and still life. Check out her portfolio here.
